Bible Passage: John 13:16-17 “Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.”

Our world is living out the old country song written by Willie Nelson in 2019 – “It is hard to be humble.” The lyrics perfectly describe the attitude of our society. Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way. I can't wait to look in the mirror because I get better-looking every day. To know me is to love me. I must be a hell of a man. Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble, but I'm doing the best that I can.

The reason God is being removed from society is that there isn't enough room in the universe for both God and proud men and women. Our actions and words may seem bold, but a more accurate description would be arrogant. We live in a “me first” world where ‘surrender’ is a four-letter word. We prefer to be served rather than to serve.

Jesus was very specific about what was required of His followers. They were to deny themselves, endure the world as He endured the cross, and accept His mantle of surrendered leadership while loving our neighbor as Christ loved us.

Our world can change only one person at a time. It starts with you and me. We must choose whom we will follow: Jesus Christ or the world. The world is spiraling out of control and will only get worse. God’s creation cannot continue to rebel against Him. You and I have been called to decide this day where our loyalties will lie. Will we be disciples of Christ and humble ourselves before God, or stand defiantly in our selfishness?
