Bible Passage: Eccl. 4:6 Better one handful with tranquility than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.

Satisfaction is neither easily obtained nor sustained because we are never truly satisfied. Our desires sway like the limbs of a tree flowing in a windstorm. We fail to comprehend that life is good and all our needs have been met. We observe others being supplied differently or are led to believe that something is lacking and that we need it to feel satisfied.

Adam and Eve experienced this firsthand in the Garden of Eden. All their needs were met, and they even walked daily with their Creator in the cool of the day. Life was perfect until the serpent told them their Creator was withholding from them, and that they lacked something. Is it possible that paradise was not sufficient?

Our desires cloud our contentment. We are blinded by these desires, failing to see that all our needs are being met. Take a moment to reflect on your desires. Once you fulfill them, are you ever truly satisfied? Perhaps for a moment, but with the next breath, more is needed to feel complete.

It does not matter what our wants may be; we will never find satisfaction in them. Our satisfaction is not possible in this world, because the want in life is a God-sized hole that only He can fill. When God is present in our lives, peace and contentment are our reward.

Endurance of illness, poverty, loneliness, fear, or anxiety is made possible when we turn our attention toward God and rely on Him to sustain us. We serve a mighty God who has given us life and wants us to know that He alone can sustain us, no matter what!
