Bible Passage: 2Sam 23:2 “The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and His word was on my tongue.
Many things always go together, a person and her shadow, two sides of a coin, two blades of scissors, and the Spirit of God and the Word of God. It is the Word of God that establishes God’s will and the Spirit of God that enables, illuminates, and empowers that will to be present in our lives.
For instance, God spoke, and the world leaped into existence, with the Spirit being present at the moment of creation. The early church was filled with God’s Spirit proclaiming with boldness God’s will for humanity. When God encourages us to be transformed by renewing our minds, it means to think of God’s ways and not man’s way. When we read God’s Word and seek His will, we replace a lie with the truth.
Our lives are transformed by seeking the heart of God and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us in ways that bring honor and glory to God. The world would lead us away from God, but reading His Word draws us closer to Him.
Our lives are bombarded daily with things that might seem right and good, but when we allow God’s Spirit to help us make more godly decisions, we find out that good was shrouded in evil. The evil in the world is why we need to drink deeply daily from God’s Word and allow God’s Spirit to be our guide rather than the world in which we live.
Take a moment and look back over the decisions of the past week. Would the words that you spoke and actions that were accomplished bring glory to God? How much of our time was spent renewing our mind rather than allowing it to become stale and perhaps evil?
It does not matter how busy you are. There is always time to open your heart and mind to the Word of God. When we choose to allow God’s Spirit to be present in everything, we think, say, and do we draw closer to God.
Do you spend time daily in God’s Word? Have you invited God’s Spirit to be your guide, engaging Him in all decisions and allow Him to help control your tongue? Life would be a lot different if we chose to live God’s way and not our own. We would find peace and joy even amongst the tumult of life.
